This recipe calls for decarbed cannabis flower/trim. If you are starting out with fresh bud or trim, This link will show you how to decarboxylate fresh cannabis for THCand This one will show you how to decarboxylate hemp flower for CBD.

What you will need:

  • 1/2 to 1oz (14 – 28g) of decarboxylated cannabis
  • 14oz coconut oil
  • Cheesecloth or coffee filter
  • Crock-pot or double boiler
  • 2 Mason jars
  • tablespoon of sunflower lecithin (optional)


Once you have decarboxylated your cannabis, you can move on the next steps.

Mason Jar Method:

  1. Place decarbed plant material and coconut oil into one of the mason jars and put the lid on
  2. Place the jar into a pot of water making sure that the water on the outside of the jar is almost up to the same level of oil that is inside the. The jar should stand upright
  3. Allow to simmer on a medium setting for 2 to 4 hrs. Gently shake jar occasionally every 30 min or so (use a potholder, it will be hot!)
  4. Remove jar from pot of water and allow it to cool
  5. Use coffee filter or cheesecloth to filter oil into the second mason jar
  6. Add in liquid sunflower lecithin (optional) and stir or shake well

Note: If you’re concerned about odor, the mason jar method produces the least amount of smell.

Crock Pot Method:

  • Place decarbed weed and coconut oil into one of the crock-pot on low setting
  • Allow to heat on a warm setting for about 4-6 hrs Stir occasionally every 30 min or so
  • Allow crock-pot to cool before straining
  • Use coffee filter or cheesecloth to filter oil into the second mason jar
  • Add in liquid sunflower lecithin (optional) and stir or shake well
